About Us
In 1997 professional woodturner and joiner David Hanlon ran his business from Amerton Farm, near Stowe-by-Chartley. As a part of his business he organized monthly meetings for hobby turners to learn more about woodturning techniques through ‘hands on’ evenings and watching demonstrations of woodturning by professionals. The club that formed was known as 'Amerton Woodturners'.
After David moved his business from Amerton, a group of members decided to set up the current club, renamed it Stafford & District Woodturning Club and relocated to Hopton Village Hall, where it still meets today. Several of the founding members are still part of the club.
Membership, although small, includes relative beginners through to experienced and skilled turners. We engage up to nine professionals through the year to demonstrate the widest variety of turning skills, artistic techniques/ideas and projects.

At the remaining meetings the more competent club members are invited to share their techniques and ideas with other members, in particular relative beginners, through ‘hands on’ sessions.
We are a low key and friendly club and offer a warm welcome to new members and visitors alike.
So whether you are an experienced turner or have a latent interest in wood and/or woodturning (perhaps from long ago woodwork lessons at school!), why not pop in at any of the meetings listed in the calendar of events or get in touch.
